From Matt about this Image:
This photo was part of a large panorama I took at The Mountain Institute near Spruce Knob, WV. This is my favorite dark sky location for enjoying the stars and is about 250 miles from home in Pittsburgh. I always tell people who haven’t experienced a dark sky like this location that the stars feel so close and bright you can reach up and pull the stars out of the sky. I nearly missed capturing this photo as a strong line of thunderstorms passed through while I hunkered down in the tent. Luckily the storms passed and left the sky incredibly clear for me to capture my panorama with the telescope observatory in the foreground.

Observatory Nights
Here’s is a capture from a Milky Way panorama I shot from Spruce Knob, WV in July, 2014This night a strong line of thunderstorms passed through as I hunkered down in the tent and eventually car from too much lightning. After 20-30 minutes the skies cleared and opened up into an incredibly beautiful milky way filled view. My friends telescope observatory is seen on the left while orange light pollution is illuminating the clouds. Nikon D800 14-24mm 2.8 iso 2000.
