From Eric about this image:

Friendly reminder that this week is the build up and peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower, the best night will be Friday night (August 11th) into Saturday morning. Unfortunately this year we’ll have to contend with an 80% illuminated moon being up for the majority of the night which will reduce the visibility of the meteors, but you’ll still be able to see the bright ones. This is my shot from last year, taken at Moosehorn Lake in the Uinta Mountains of Utah. I captured around 125 meteors altogether (from almost 1,500 total exposures taken over the course of roughly 5 hours), painstakingly masking them all onto a single layer in Photoshop which were single tracked exposures of the sky which I then blended with the foreground exposures taken at the same time. I ended up using 2 camera setups, one a D600 with Rokinon 24mm f1.4 and the other a D7000 with a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 (at 16mm to create a fov the same as the 24mm on the D600). Lots of fun watching the shower, lots of exhausting editing getting the final shot.
If you’re interested in imaging the meteor shower your best chance of success will be using a lens with a f1.4 aperture, with the Rokinon I captured ~100-110 meteors, with the Tokina I captured ~15-20. The widest aperture possible is the single most important aspect of meteor photography.
