The Milky Way shining in the night sky above Black Tusk.

This was taken last June during a backpacking trip in Garibaldi Provincial Park. After enduring many months of dreary, wet weather in southern BC, summer finally arrived in full force and I took full advantage of it by hiking up Empetrum Peak in Garibaldi. The route up Empetrum was still mostly covered in snow, however it was hard-packed and snowshoes weren’t necessary.
As it was only a few days after the summer solstice, it did not get truly dark until after midnight. The sky remained clear all night, and despite the considerable glow along the southern horizon from the Vancouver city lights, the Milky Way shone brightly. This is a stack of images, taken from just below the summit of Empetrum Peak and stacked using Sequator. I’m looking forward to this year’s Milky Way season!
